Having never finished high school, and a rebel since childhood, Luis Urdaneta’s future did not look big or bright according to early predictions from his family and friends. Yet even though he grew up poor in Venezuela, he did not let his circumstances define him. Luis decided he was going to change his life when he was only a teenager, and he has done just that, having built a successful and near-billion-dollar multinational company based in the United States—and all as a non-English speaker.

Luis is no stranger to failure and hardship. He received his first taste of success as a direct salesperson for Tupperware, even though carrying pink bags of supplies and knocking from door to door to find clients through Venezuelan neighborhoods was far from his ideal job. During this time, he met mentors who helped him learn the behaviors and focus he needed in order to find his way to the top, and he soon achieved great success thanks to believing it was possible. But all of his effort went to waste when he lost his focus by turning away from direct sales. Everything he had worked so hard for began crashing down around him and he declared bankruptcy by the time he was thirty-nine.

Luis returned to direct sales—his true passion—in order to find his way out of the darkness and decided to create his own direct sales company in Venezuela, knowing that starting from zero would be hard but his only option. After achieving success in Venezuela, it became clear he needed to strike out on new levels, so once again surrounded with trusted teammates and family, he went after his American Dream.
The MONAT brand was introduced to market, selling high-end beauty products, and has since become a near-billion-dollar company.
